What is the most important information I should know about Betoptic S?Although Betoptic S is applied to the eye, it may be absorbed into the bloodstream. Make sure your doctor is aware if you have diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other respiratory disease, overactive thyroid, or decreased heart function.
Who should not take Betoptic S?Do not use Betoptic S if you have 2nd or 3rd degree heart block, heart failure, cardiogenic shock (when the heart is too damaged to supply sufficient blood to the body), or slow heartbeat (sinus bradycardia). Do not use Betoptic S if you are sensitive or allergic to it.
What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Betoptic S?Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Betoptic S, especially if you are taking an oral beta-andrenergic blocking drug, catecholamine-depleting drugs such as reserpine, or psychotropic drugs.
Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have asthma or other lung disorders, diabetes, heart disease, thyroid disease, neuromuscular disorders, if you plan to undergo general anesthesia, or if you have a history of anaphylactic reaction (an extreme and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction).
What is the usual dosage?The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.
Adults: The usual recommended dose is 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) twice daily.
How should I take Betoptic S?Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Shake Betoptic S well before each dose. Do not use with contact lenses in the eyes.
Betopic S may be used alone or in combination with other medications to control your internal eye pressure.
Administer Betoptic as follows: 1. Wash your hands thoroughly. 2. Gently pull your lower eyelid down to form a pocket between your eye and eyelid. 3. Hold the bottle on the bridge of your nose or on your forehead. 4. Do not touch the applicator tip to any surface, including your eye. 5. Tilt your head back and squeeze Betoptic into your eye. 6. Close your eyes gently. Keep your eyes closed for 1 to 2 minutes. 7. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes before using any other eyedrops. 8. Do not rinse the dropper.
What should I avoid while taking Betoptic S?Do not touch dropper tip to any surface, as this may contaminate the solution.
What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Betoptic S?If Betoptic S is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Betoptic S with the following: andrenergic psychotropic drugs; catecholamine-depleting drugs such as reserpine; MAO inhibitors such as phenelzine; and oral beta-blockers such as propranolol or atenolol.
What are the possible side effects of Betoptic S?Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

Can I receive Betoptic S if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?The effects of Betoptic S during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Betoptic S should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Use Betoptic S with caution if you are breastfeeding.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Betoptic S?Take Betoptic S as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
