What is Cayston?Cayston is an inhaled antibiotic used to improve breathing symptoms in people with cystic fibrosis (inherited disease that causes your mucus to be thick and sticky, and may result in difficulty breathing) who have a certain bacterial infection in their lungs.
What is the most important information I should know about Cayston?Cayston is for inhalation use only. Cayston should only be administered using the Altera Nebulizer System.
Serious or severe allergic reactions can occur while you are using Cayston. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience a severe rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face.
Like all antibiotics, Cayston works only against bacteria. It will not cure an infection caused by a virus, such as the common cold or flu.
Complete the full 28-day course of Cayston treatment, even if symptoms improve earlier. Do not skip doses. Skipping doses or not completing the full course of Cayston can decrease its effectiveness and can lead to the growth of bacteria that are resistant to the effects of Cayston.

Adults and children ≥7 years: The recommended dose is the inhalation of the contents of one single-use vial, taken three times a day, with the Altera Nebulizer System.
How should I take Cayston?Use Cayston exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You should use an inhaled bronchodilator (a type of medicine used to relax and open your airways) before taking a dose of Cayston. Mix Cayston with one ampule of saline (diluent). Immediately after reconstitution, inhale Cayston using the Altera Nebulizer System. Doses should be taken at least 4 hours apart. Cayston should be used for a 28-day course of treatment, followed by at least 28 days off the medicine.
Please review the instructions that came with your prescription on how to properly use Cayston with the Altera Nebulizer System.
