    Benadryl is an antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies, including runny nose, sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat. It works by blocking the action of histamine, which reduces the symptoms of an allergic reaction.

    When using this product, marked drowsiness may occur. Alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness. Be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery until you know how this drug affects you. Excitability may also occur, especially in children.

    Do not use this drug to make a child sleepy.

    Do not use with any other product containing diphenhydramine, even one used on the skin.

Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, glaucoma, trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are taking sedatives or tranquilizers.

    The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

    Adults and Children ≥12 Years: 2 to 4 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Do not take more than six times in 24 hours.

    Children 6 to <12 Years of Age: 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Do not take more than six times in 24 hours.

    Children 2 to <6 Years: Do not use unless directed by a doctor.

    This drug is not approved for use in children <2 years.
