DynaCirc CR

Generic Name: Isradipine

  • What is DynaCirc CR?

DynaCirc CR, a type of medication called a calcium channel blocker, is prescribed to treat high blood pressure.

  • What is the most important information I should know about DynaCirc CR?

You must take DynaCirc CR regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be several weeks before you get the full benefit of DynaCirc CR; continue taking it even if you are feeling well. DynaCirc CR does not cure high blood pressure; it works to keep it under control.

DynaCirc CR can potentially drop your blood pressure too low and you may feel faint or dizzy. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.

Some patients may experience swelling in the hands and feet while taking DynaCirc CR. Notify your doctor right away to determine if it is a side effect of the medicine or if it is a sign of your worsening condition if you have heart failure.

Do not be concerned if you occasionally notice something resembling a tablet in your stool. It is the empty shell coating that allows for the slow release of the medicine in your body.

  • Who should not take DynaCirc CR?

If you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to DynaCirc CR or any of its ingredients, you should not take this medication. Tell your doctor about any drug reactions you have experienced.

  • What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of DynaCirc CR?

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with DynaCirc CR. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have congestive heart failure or problems involving narrowing of the stomach, or if you are taking a beta-blocking medication such as propranolol.

  • What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults: The usual starting dosage is 5 mg once a day, alone or in combination with a thiazide diuretic (water pill). Doses may be increased by 5 mg at 2-4 week intervals up to a maximum daily dose of 20 mg. The dosage will be adjusted to meet your individual needs, depending on your condition and how your body responds to the drug.

  • How should I take DynaCirc CR?

Swallow the controlled-release tablet whole, without crushing, dividing, or chewing it. Try not to miss any doses. If DynaCirc CR is not taken regularly, your condition may worsen.

  • What should I avoid while taking DynaCirc CR?

DynaCirc CR may drop your blood pressure levels very low, causing you to become dizzy or faint. It is therefore important for you to become accustomed to the effects of DynaCirc CR before participating in activities that require mental alertness, such as driving.

  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with DynaCirc CR?

If DynaCirc CR is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining DynaCirc CR with beta-blocking blood pressure drugs, such as propranolol, and fentanyl.

  • What are the possible side effects of DynaCirc CR?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.
