  • What is Fortesta?

    Fortesta is a topical (medicine applied to skin surface) medicine that contains testosterone. Fortesta is used to treat adult males who have low or no testosterone.

  • What is the most important information I should know about Fortesta?

    Fortesta can transfer from your body to others. This can happen if other people come into contact with the area where you applied Fortesta.

    Women and children should avoid contact with the unwashed or unclothed area where you applied Fortesta. If a woman or child makes contact with the Fortesta application area, that area on the woman or child should be washed well with soap and water immediately.

    Fortesta is flammable until dry. Let Fortesta dry before smoking or going near an open flame.

  • Who should not take Fortesta?

    Do not take Fortesta if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Do not use Fortesta if you have known or suspected prostate cancer or male breast cancer. Women should not use Fortesta.

  • What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Fortesta?

    Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Fortesta. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have or are suspected of having breast or prostate cancer, heart disease, sleep apnea (stopping breathing temporarily during sleep), liver or kidney disease.

  • What is the usual dosage?

    The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

    Adults: The recommended dose is 40 milligrams (mg) (4 pump actuations) applied once a day in the morning.

  • How should I take Fortesta?

    Apply Fortesta to the front and inner part of your thighs only. Do not apply it to any other parts of your body such as your stomach area (abdomen), penis, scrotum (the sac located behind the penis), shoulders, or upper arms.

    Apply Fortesta in the morning, after you shower or bathe, and only apply it to areas that will be covered by shorts or pants. Do not swim, shower, or bathe for at least 2 hours after you apply Fortesta.

    Before using a new canister of Fortesta for the first time, you will need to prime the pump. To prime the Fortesta pump, gently push down on the pump 8 times. Do not use any Fortesta that comes out while priming. Wash it down the sink or throw it in the trash to avoid accidental exposure to others.

    Depress the pump to apply the medicine directly on clean, dry, intact skin of the front and inner part of your thighs. Use one finger to gently rub Fortesta evenly onto the front and inner part of each thigh. Wash your hands with soap and water right after you apply Fortesta.

  • What should I avoid while taking Fortesta?

    Avoid transferring Fortesta from your body to others. This can happen if other people come in contact with the area where you apply Fortesta.

  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Fortesta?

    If Fortesta is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Fortesta with the following: anticoagulants (blood thinners such as warfarin), corticosteroids (such as prednisone or methylprednisolone), or insulin.

  • What are the possible side effects of Fortesta?

    Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

    Side effects may include: abnormal dreams, application-site reactions, increased erections

  • Can I receive Fortesta if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

    Testosterone is intended for use only by men and must not be used by women. If used during pregnancy, it can cause serious harm to the developing baby.

  • What should I do if I miss a dose of Fortesta?

    If you miss a dose of Fortesta, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply two doses at once.

  • How should I store Fortesta?

    Store at room temperature. When it is time to throw away the canister, you can safely throw it away in the household trash. Keep it away from fire. Do not freeze it.
