  • What is Keppra?

    Keppra is used to treat several types of seizures in both adults and children with epilepsy. Keppra XR (an extended-release form which means that it releases medicine slowly into your body over 24 hours) is used to treat seizures in people ≥16 years.

  • What is the most important information I should know about Keppra?

    Keppra may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any signs and symptoms of depression, any unusual changes in mood or behavior, or thoughts of suicide.

    Keppra may cause sleepiness and behavior problems in adults and children. It may also cause coordination problems in adults.

    Do not stop taking Keppra without first talking with your doctor because this can cause more seizures to occur.

    Keppra may cause severe drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or operate dangerous machinery until you know how Keppra will affect you.

    Do not take Keppra if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

  • What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Keppra?

  • How should I take Keppra?

    Take Keppra exactly as prescribed. Keppra is taken by mouth with or without food. Take Keppra at the same time(s) every day. Swallow the Keppra tablets whole; do not chew or crush the tablets.

    If you are taking Keppra oral solution, make sure you use a medicine dropper or medicine cup to measure the correct amount; do not use a household teaspoon.

    Take Keppra XR exactly as prescribed. Keppra XR is taken by mouth with or without food. Take Keppra XR at the same time every day. Swallow Keppra XR tablets whole; do not chew, break, or crush the tablets.

  • What should I avoid while taking Keppra?

    Keppra may cause severe drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other activities that need your complete focus until you know how the drug affects you.

  • What should I do if I miss a dose of Keppra?

    If you miss a dose of Keppra, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
