What is the usual dosage?The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults and children >9 years or >60 pounds: The recommended dose is 2 teaspoonfuls (10 milliliters [mL]) three or four times a day.
Children 6-9 years or <60 pounds: The recommended dose is 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) three or four times a day.

It is especially important to check with your healthcare provider before combining metaproterenol syrup with the following: certain antidepressants (such as amitriptyline or imipramine); medicines that affect your blood pressure or heart rate (such as pseudoephedrine); monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a class of medications used to treat depression and other psychiatric conditions (such as phenelzine or tranylcypromine); or other similar medicines (such as albuterol or salmeterol).
