  • What is MoviPrep?

    MoviPrep is used for colon cleansing in preparation for a colonoscopy in people 18 years and older.
  • What is the most important information I should know about MoviPrep?

    Though rare, there have been reports of seizures with the use of polyethylene glycol (PEG) colon preparation products. MoviPrep should be used with caution in patients on medications that may alter electrolyte levels, including diuretics (water pills) and ACE inhibitors.

    MoviPrep should be used cautiously with severe ulcerative colitis, ileus, gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation, gastric retention, toxic colitis, or toxic megacolon.

  • Who should not take MoviPrep?

    Do not take MoviPrep if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of MoviPrep?

    Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking. MoviPrep may flush out any medication taken 1 hour before it. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have/had any type of gastrointestinal disorder.
  • What is the usual dosage?

    The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

    Split-dose MoviPrep Regimen: The evening before the colonoscopy, take the first liter of MoviPrep solution over one hour (one 8 ounce glass every 15 minutes) and then drink 0.5 liters (approximately 16 ounces) of clear fluid. Then, on the morning of the colonoscopy, take the second liter of MoviPrep solution over one hour and then drink 0.5 liters of clear liquid at least one hour prior to the start of the colonoscopy.

    Evening-only (Full-dose) MoviPrep Regimen: Around 6 o'clock the evening before the colonoscopy, take the first liter of MoviPrep solution over one hour (one 8 ounce glass every 15 minutes) and then about 1.5 hours later take the second liter of MoviPrep solution over one hour. In addition, take 1 liter (approximately 32 ounces) of additional clear liquid during the evening before the colonoscopy.

  • How should I take MoviPrep?

    MoviPrep solution is prepared by emptying the contents of 1 pouch A and 1 pouch B into a suitable glass container (or the container provided) and adding to the container 1 liter of lukewarm water. Mix the solution to ensure that the ingredients are completely dissolved. After mixed, you may refrigerate. The mixed solution should be used within 24 hours. After the first liter is consumed, the above mixing procedure should be repeated with the second pouch A and pouch B to mix the second liter of the MoviPrep solution.

    It is recommended if you are receiving MoviPrep to adequately hydrate before, during, and after its use. You may have clear soup and/or plain yogurt for dinner, finishing the evening meal at least one hour before beginning MoviPrep treatment. No solid food should be taken from the start of MoviPrep treatment until after the colonoscopy.

  • What should I avoid while taking MoviPrep?

    Avoid solid foods after you have taken MoviPrep until after your colonoscopy.
  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with MoviPrep?

    Medications taken 1 hour before MoviPrep may be flushed from your system.
  • What are the possible side effects of MoviPrep?

    Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

    Side effects may include: anal discomfort, nausea, stomach discomfort/pain, general feeling of discomfort, vomiting

  • Can I receive MoviPrep if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

    If you are pregnant or nursing, talk to your doctor before taking MoviPrep. The effects of MoviPrep on an unborn baby are not known, and it may pass into breast milk.
  • What should I do if I miss a dose of MoviPrep?

    Contact your doctor if you miss taking your dose of MoviPrep at the appropriate time.
  • How should I store MoviPrep?

    Store pouches at room temperature; if mixed, refrigerate and use solution within 24 hours.
