  • What is this medication?

    Mucinex contains an expectorant which is intended to help loosen mucus and thin bronchial secretions to rid the bronchial passageways of bothersome mucus and make coughs more productive.
  • Are there any warnings associated with Mucinex?

    Stop using this product and talk to a doctor if the cough lasts more than 7 days, comes back, or occurs with a fever, rash, or persistent headache. These could be signs of a serious illness.

    Do not use this product for children under the age of 12.

    Keep this product out of the reach of children. In case of an overdose, get medical help or contact a poison control center immediately.

    Do not use this product if the carton is open or if the seal on the bottle printed "SEALED for YOUR PROTECTION" is broken or missing.

  • Should I talk to my doctor before taking Mucinex?

    Talk to a doctor before using this product if you have a persistent cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema.

    Talk to a doctor before using this product if you have a cough accompanied by too much phlegm (mucus).

    Talk to a doctor before using this product if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

  • What are the possible side effects of Mucinex?

    Side effects cannot always be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue taking this drug.
  • What should I avoid while taking Mucinex?

    Do not use this product in children under the age of 12.

    Do not take more of this product than directed. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.

  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Mucinex?

    If Mucinex is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Always check with your doctor before combining Mucinex with any other medication.
  • What is the usual dosage of Mucinex?

    Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. Take this product with a full glass of water. This product can be administered without regard for the timing of meals.

    Mucinex:

    Adults and Children 12 years: Take one to two 600-mg tablets every 12 hours. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours.

    Children <12 years: Do not use.

    Maximum Strength Mucinex:

    Adults and Children 12 years: Take one 1200-mg tablet every 12 hours. Do not exceed 2 tablets in 24 hours.

    Children <12 years: Do not use.

  • How should I store Mucinex?

    Store at room temperature.
