    Preparation H Ointment is intended to help relieve itching and discomfort related to hemorrhoids, temporarily shrink hemorrhoid tissue and relieve burning, temporarily relieve anorectal discomfort, and temporarily protect inflamed, irritated surfaces in the area to help relieve pain from bowel movements.
  • Are there any warnings associated with Preparation H Ointment?

    Do not use more than the recommended daily dosage of this product unless directed by a doctor.

    This product is for external and intrarectal use only.

    Stop using this product and ask a doctor if bleeding develops, your condition gets worse or does not improve in 7 days, or inserting the applicator into the rectum causes more pain.

    Keep this product out of the reach of children. If it is swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison control center immediately.

    Ask a doctor before using this product if you have heart disease, thyroid disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or trouble urinating due to prostate gland enlargement.

    Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage unless directed to do so by a doctor. Do not swallow the product.

    If Preparation H is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Always check with your doctor before combining Preparation H with any other medication, especially prescriptions for high blood pressure or depression.
  • What is the usual dosage of Preparation H Ointment?

    Adults: When practical, clean the affected area by blotting or patting it with a cleansing wipe made for this purpose. Dry the area gently by blotting or patting it with a tissue or soft cloth before using the ointment.

    Puncture the foil seal with the top end of the cap when first opening the tube. Apply the product to the affected area up to four times daily. Ideal times to use it are in the morning, after each bowel movement, or at night.

    To use this product intrarectally, remove the cover from the applicator, attach the applicator to the tube, lubricate the applicator thoroughly, and insert it gently into the rectum. Clean the applicator thoroughly after using it, and replace the cover. Also apply the product to the external area.

    Using the product regularly offers continuous treatment for symptoms.
