Heart Attack, Stroke, and Related Complications
Adults: The initial dose of Altace is 2.5 milligrams (mg), once a day for 1 week, 5 mg, once a day for the next 3 weeks, and then increased as tolerated, to a dose of 10 mg, once a day.
High Blood Pressure
Adults: The usual dosage (without diuretic) is 2.5 mg once a day. The usual dosage range is 2.5 to 20 mg per day administered as a single dose or in two equally divided doses.
Heart Failure
Adults: The usual starting dosage of Altace is 2.5 mg twice daily (5 mg per day).
How should I take Altace?
Return to topAltace capsules are usually swallowed whole. The capsule can also be opened and the contents sprinkled on a small amount of apple sauce or mixed in water or apple juice.
What should I avoid while taking Altace?
Return to topAvoid become pregnant while being treated with Altace. Also, avoid sweating excessively—this can lead to dehydration which may cause a quick drop in blood pressure. Drink plenty of fluids to remain hydrated if you engage in strenuous activity.
What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Altace?
Return to topTalk to your doctor if you are using potassium supplements, potassium salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics, or lithium.
