Antivert, an antihistamine, is prescribed for the management of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. Antivert may also be prescribed for the management of vertigo (a spinning sensation or a feeling that the ground is tilted) due to diseases affecting the vestibular system (the bony labyrinth of the ear, which contains the sensors that control your balance).

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Antivert. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have have asthma, glaucoma, or an enlarged prostate gland.


What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Motion Sickness

Adults and children 12 and over: For protection against motion sickness, take 25 to 50 milligrams 1 hour before traveling. You may repeat the dose every 24 hours for the duration of the journey.

Vertigo

Adults and children 12 and over:

The recommended dosage is 25 to 100 milligrams per day, divided into equal, smaller doses as determined by your doctor.

The safety and effectiveness of Antivert have not been established in children under 12 years of age.
