BuSpar should not be used with antidepressant drugs known as monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors such as phenelzine or tranylcypromine.

Until you know how this medication affects you, do not drive a car or operate potentially dangerous machinery.

During your treatment with BuSpar, avoid drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice.

Who should not take BuSpar?

What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults: The recommended initial dose is 15 milligrams (mg) daily divided into two doses. Your doctor may increase the dosage by 5 mg per day every 2-3 days. The maximum daily dose is 60 mg.

How should I take BuSpar?

Take BuSpar consistently at the same time. Always take it the same way; you can choose either to take it always with food or always without food.

What should I avoid while taking BuSpar?

Avoid drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice.

If BuSpar is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either drug could be increased, decreased, or altered. The effects of BuSpar during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Talk with your doctor before taking this drug if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

What should I do if I miss a dose of BuSpar?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses at the same time.

How should I store BuSpar?

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container away from light.
