Corzide is a combination drug used to treat high blood pressure.


What is the most important information I should know about Corzide?

Do not stop taking Corzide abruptly. This can cause increased chest pain and even a heart attack. If needed. Your dose should be gradually reduced by your doctor.

Corzide may mask the symptoms of low blood sugar or may alter blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes or high blood sugar, you should report any changes in blood sugar levels to your doctor right away.

You must take Corzide regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be several weeks before you get the full benefit of Corzide. You must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Corzide does not cure high blood pressure; it only keeps it under control.

Do not use Corzide if you have breathing problems, slow heartbeat, certain heartbeat irregularities, active heart failure, inability to urinate, or if you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to Corzide, its ingredients, or similar drugs.


What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Corzide?

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Corzide. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have breathing problems,, high blood sugar, lung disease, a history of long-term heart failure, kidney disease, liver disease, allergic reactions, seasonal allergies, or thyroid problems,


What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults: The usual dose is 1 Corzide 40/5 milligram (mg) tablet daily. If necessary, you may need 1 Corzide 80/5 mg tablet daily. If you have kidney problems, you may be prescribed a lower dose or take it less frequently. If Corzide fails to bring your blood pressure under control, your doctor may gradually add another high blood pressure drug.


How should I take Corzide?

Corzide may be taken with or without food. Take it exactly as prescribed even if you do not have any symptoms.


What should I avoid while taking Corzide?

Try not to miss any doses. Corzide should not be stopped suddenly. This can cause increased chest pain and even a heart attack.

Corzide may intensify the effects of alcohol. Do not drink alcoholic beverages while taking Corzide.


What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Corzide?

If Corzide is taken with any other drug, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Corzide with any of the following: alcohol, amphotericin B, antidepressant drugs known as MAO inhibitors (such as phenelzine or tranylcypromine), antigout drugs, barbiturates, blood thinners, calcium salts, \blood pressure medications (such as chlorothiazide or hydralazine/reserpine/hydrochlorothiazide or enalapril), cholestyramine, colestipol, corticosteroids, diabetes drugs, diazoxide, digoxin, epinephrine, lithium, methenamine, narcotics such as morphine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as naproxen, reserpine, sulfinpyrazone


What are the possible side effects of Corzide?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

Side effects may include: breathing problems, changes in heartbeat, cold hands and feet, dizziness, fatigue, low blood pressure, low potassium levels (symptoms include dry mouth, excessive thirst, weakness, drowsiness, restlessness, weak or irregular heartbeat, muscle pain or cramps, diminished urination, and upset stomach)


Can I receive Corzide if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

The effects of Corzide during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Talk with your doctor before taking this drug if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.


What should I do if I miss a dose of Corzide?

Take it as soon as you remember. If it is within 8 hours of your next scheduled dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at the same time.


How should I store Corzide?
