What is Cystadane?
Return to topCystadane is used to reduce dangerously high blood levels of the naturally occurring amino acid homocysteine. Excessive levels of homocysteine can lead to formation of clots within blood vessels, brittle bones (osteoporosis) and other bone abnormalities, and dislocation of the lens of the eye. Homocysteine is also linked with an increased risk of heart disease and heart attack.

Your doctor may prescribe Cystadane along with vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B12 (cobalamin), and folate. All of these dietary substances aid in the proper processing of homocysteine.

What is the usual dosage?
Return to topThe information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.
The prescribed amount of Cystadane should be measured with the measuring scoop provided. One level 1.7 milliliter (mL) scoop is equal to 1 gram (g) of drug.
Adults: The usual dosage is 3 g mixed with 4 to 6 ounces of water twice a day. Make sure the powder is completely dissolved before drinking. Drink immediately after mixing.
The doctor will gradually increase your dosage until your homocysteine levels are under control. Dosages of up to 20 g daily are sometimes necessary.
Children: In pediatric patients <3 years of age, dosage may be started at 100 milligrams (mg) per 2.2 pounds of body weight per day. The daily dose can be increased weekly by 50 mg per 2.2 pounds until homocysteine levels are normal.
How should I take Cystadane?

Shake the bottle lightly before removing the cap. Measure with the scoop provided. One level scoop is equal to 1 g of drug. Measure the number of scoops your doctor has prescribed. Dissolve Cystadane in 4 to 6 ounces of water, juice, milk, or formula, or mix with food and take immediately. Always replace the cap tightly after each use.
What should I avoid while taking Cystadane?
