Hyzaar is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (thickening of the heart muscle).
What is the most important information I should know about Hyzaar?
Return to topDo not use Hyzaar during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy. This drug can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. Tell your doctor immediately if you think you might be pregnant.
You must take Hyzaar regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may take several weeks for you to get the full benefit of Hyzaar. You must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Hyzaar does not cure blood pressure. It only keeps it under control.

Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have kidney or liver disease, gout, diabetes, high cholesterol, a history of allergy or asthma, or systemic lupus erythematosus.
What is the usual dosage?
Return to topThe information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

If your blood pressure does not respond to this dose after about 3 weeks, the doctor may increase the dose to two 50/12.5 mg tablets taken once daily or one 100/25mg tablet taken once daily.
