Persantine is sometimes used with aspirin to provide better protection against the formation of blood clots. However, the risk of bleeding may also be increased when these two drugs are taken together. To reduce this risk, take only the amount of aspirin prescribed by the same doctor who directed you to take Persantine. If you need a medication for pain or a fever, do not take extra aspirin without first consulting your doctor. (Persantine is commonly given with the anticoagulant warfarin. It should be noted that aspirin should not be given at the same time as coumarin anticoagulants.)

Persantine has been known to cause liver problems, including liver failure. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following signs of liver trouble: nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, itching, yellowish skin, flu-like symptoms, and pain in the upper right abdomen.

Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to Persantine. This medication may cause dizziness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines.

Persantine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects.

Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Persantine before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.

Persantine should be used with caution in patients who have severe heart problems because symptoms such as chest pain may be aggravated while taking this medication. Persantine should also be used with caution in patients with hypotension (low blood pressure).
