What is Xalatan?

Xalatan is a prostaglandin eye drop that helps reduce the increased blood pressure of the eye(s) if you have open-angle glaucoma or hypertension of the eye.

What is the most important information I should know about Xalatan?

Xalatan eye solution has been reported to cause changes to colored tissues of the eyes, which may not become noticeable for several months to years, and are expected to increase as long as the eye drops are used. It can increase the color of the iris, eyelids, and eyelashes, and lengthen eyelashes. After stopping the use of the medication, the changes in the color of the iris are likely to be permanent while changes of the eyelids and eyelashes may be reversible in some patients. The effects of increased color changes beyond 5 years are not known.

Avoid allowing the tip of the dispensing container to contact the eye or surrounding structures because this could cause the tip to become contaminated by common bacteria known to cause eye infections. Serious damage to the eye and subsequent loss of vision may result from using contaminated solutions.

If you seem to continually get eye infections or irritation or have had ocular surgery, seek your physician's advice concerning the continued use of the multiple-dose container.

If any eye reactions occur, particularly conjunctivitis and lid reactions, seek immediate medical attention.

To instill the drop(s): 1. Wash your hands with soap and water. 2. Look toward the ceiling with both eyes open. 3. Pull your lower lid down—steady your hand on your forehead. 4. Put a drop of medicine in the sac behind the lashes of the lower lid. 5. Try to keep your eyes closed for 1 minute after instilling the drops to obtain the maximum benefit.

What should I avoid while taking Xalatan?
