Return to topWhen starting Betapace, you should be in a facility such as a hospital for a minimum of three days in order to prevent further heart problems. Betapace should not be confused with Betapace AF, since they are used for different conditions. Also, do not discontinue treatment with Betapace without telling your doctor.
Who should not take Betapace?
Return to topYou should not take this medication if you have bronchial asthma or heart disease (eg, low heart rate, heart failure, prolonged QT intervals, etc.). Talk with your doctor about alternatives.
What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Betapace?

In addition, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have breathing problems or are scheduled for surgery. What is the usual dosage?
Return to topThe information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.
Adults: The usual initial dose is 80 milligrams (mg) twice daily. Your doctor may increase the dose depending on your condition. If your condition is more severe, doses may be increased to 480-640 mg per day after your doctor has justified that the benefits outweighing the risks.
Children ≥2 years: The usual initial dose is 30 mg/m2 taken three times a day. Dosing adjustments may be made after careful tests are taken to achieve therapeutic levels.
How should I take Betapace?
Return to topTake Betapace at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not discontinue Betapace without telling your doctor. Remember to finish taking your medication and consult with your doctor about a gradual dose reduction.
What should I avoid while taking Betapace?

It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Betapace with the following: albuterol; aluminum; amiodararone; anti-arrhythmics such as disopyramide, quinidine, procainamide; anti-diabetics such as insulin, metformin; arsenic; cisapride; clonidine; diltiazem; dofetilide; droperidol; guanethidine; H1 antagonists such as astemizole, terfenadine; indomethacin; isoprenaline; ketanserin; macrolides and keytones such as erythromycin, azithromycin; magnesium; mefloquine; nefedipine; phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors such as sildenafil; reserpine; salbutamol; terbutaline; thioridazine; verapamil; ziprasidone
