What is Finacea?

Finacea is a gel used to treat mild to moderate rosacea (a skin condition marked by red eruptions, usually on the cheeks and nose).

What is the most important information I should know about Finacea?

Finacea is to be used in only on your affected skin. Never use it orally, in your eyes, or vaginally.

This medicine has been known to occasionally have a bleaching effect on the skin. Report any abnormal changes in skin color to your doctor.

You should keep using Finacea regularly, even if you see no immediate improvement. It may take a few weeks before you see results.

Who should not take Finacea?

Do not use Finacea if you are allergic to it or to any ingredient of the gel or if you have a history of allergies to propylene glycol (an additive in many facial products).

Adults: The usual dose of Finacea is a thin film applied twice a day, once in the morning and again in the evening.

How should I take Finacea?

Use Finacea once in the morning and again in the evening. Wash the areas to be treated with very mild soap or a soapless cleansing lotion and pat dry with a soft towel. Apply a thin film of the medication and gently, but thoroughly, massage it into the skin. Wash your hands afterwards. You can apply makeup after Finacea has dried.

What should I avoid while taking Finacea?

Finacea should not come into contact with the mouth, eyes, and other mucous membranes.

Avoid any foods and beverages that might provoke redness, flushing, and blushing such as spicy foods, hot foods and drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

Use only very mild soaps or soapless cleansing lotion for facial cleansing. Avoid alcoholic cleansers, tinctures and astringents, abrasives, and peeling agents. Do not use dressings or wrappings that block contact with air.

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

The effects of Finacea during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Use caution if you are nursing while using Finacea.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Finacea?

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next application, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule.
