Return to topThe use of Floxin Otic may cause you to develop a serious allergic reaction. It is important to stop using Floxin Otic and immediately notify your physician if you develop any type of rash, difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or throat tightening.
Floxin Otic is not for use in the eyes and is not to be given by an injection.
Who should not take Floxin Otic?

What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Floxin Otic?

Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a quinolone antibiotic, including ofloxacin.
What is the usual dosage?
Return to topThe information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.
Otitis Externa (Swimmer's Ear)
Children 6 months to 13 years old: Five drops (0.25 milliliters (mL)) instilled into the affected ear once daily for seven days.
Adults and children 13 years and older: Ten drops (0.5 mL) instilled into the affected ear once daily for seven days.
Acute Otitis Media (Severe Middle Ear Infection) in Children with Ear Tubes
Children 1 to 12 years old: Five drops (0.25 mL) instilled into the affected ear twice daily for 10 days.
Chronic Otitis Media (Recurring Ear Infection) in Patients with a Perforated Ear Drum
Adults and children 12 years and older: Ten drops (0.5 mL) instilled into the affected ear twice daily for 14 days.
How should I take Floxin Otic?
Return to topTake Floxin Otic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Complete the full course of therapy for best results. If the infection has not improved after one week, return to your or your child's doctor for further evaluation.
Prior to administration of Floxin Otic, the bottle should be warmed by holding it in your hands for one to two minutes. It is also important to lie on your side with the affected ear pointing upwards before inserting the drops into your ear.
Do not touch the applicator tip of the Floxin Otic bottle to your hands or to any other source.
After the drops are inserted, it is important to lie on your side with your treated ear facing upward for 5 minutes. This will help Floxin Otic to be properly absorbed into the ear.
If Floxin Otic is being used for the treatment of a severe middle ear infection in patients who have ear tubes or if it is being used for the treatment of a recurring ear infection in patients with a perforated ear drum, then the flap in front of the ear canal (tragus) should be gently pressed four times after the drops have been inserted in order to help the drops reach the inner part of the ear.
