Isentress is not a cure for HIV infection. It does not reduce the risk of passing HIV to others through sexual contact, sharing needles, or being exposed to blood. The long-term effects of using Isentress are not known.

Also tell your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have any allergies or you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.


What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults: The usual dose is 400 milligrams twice a day.


How should I take Isentress?

Take Isentress exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take the tablet twice a day by mouth. It can be taken with or without food.

If Isentress is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Always check with your doctor before combining Isentress with other medications, especially rifampin or other medicines used to treat HIV.

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

Side effects may include: diarrhea, headache, nausea, rash, skin reactions


Can I receive Isentress if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Isentress should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor before taking this drug if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.


What should I do if I miss a dose of Isentress?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If you do not remember until it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.
