Tekturna is not to be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while on this medication, stop taking Tekturna and call your doctor right away. Tekturna may harm an unborn baby, causing injury and even death.

Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may take a few weeks before you see the full benefit of this medication; you must continue taking it even if you are feeling well.

What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Tekturna?

Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, are breastfeeding, have kidney problems, or are allergic to any of the ingredients in Tekturna.

What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults: The usual starting dose is 150 milligrams (mg) taken once daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to 300 mg daily if your blood pressure is not adequately controlled on the lower dose.

How should I take Tekturna?

Take Tekturna once a day, at the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food.

What should I avoid while taking Tekturna?

Avoid becoming pregnant while on this medication. It is not known whether Tekturna passes into breast milk; you may have to stop breastfeeding while on this medication or your doctor may want you to use another medication to lower your blood pressure instead. Speak to your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Tekturna?

If Tekturna is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Tekturna with the following: antifungal drugs, cyclosporine, furosemide, diuretics, potassium-containing medicines, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium.

What are the possible side effects of Tekturna?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

Can I receive Tekturna if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should not take this medication if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while on this medication, inform your doctor as soon as possible. It is not known whether Tekturna passes into breast milk. There is potential for harm to the nursing infant, so your doctor will decide whether to discontinue nursing or whether to discontinue the medication.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Tekturna?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is within 12 hours of your next dose, do not take the missed dose. Just take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take 2 doses at the same.
