What is Temovate?

Temovate is used to relieve the itching and inflammation of moderate to severe skin conditions. The scalp application is used for short-term treatment of scalp conditions. The cream, ointment, emollient cream, and gel are used for short-term treatment of skin conditions on the body.

What is the most important information I should know about Temovate?

Even though Temovate is used on the skin, some of the drug can be absorbed through your skin and into the bloodstream. Increased absorption can lead to unwanted side effects elsewhere in the body. To minimize this problem, avoid using Temovate over large areas and do not cover it with airtight dressings such as plastic wrap or adhesive bandages unless specifically directed by your doctor.

Who should not take Temovate?

Do not use Temovate if you are sensitive to any component of the preparation.

What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Temovate?

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Temovate. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have a skin infection, rosacea (a skin condition characterized by redness, pimples, and broken blood vessels); or inflammation, redness, or pimples around the mouth.

What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults and children≥12 years and older: Apply Temovate to the affected area 2 times a day, once in the morning and once at night. Treatment should not last for more than 2 weeks in a row. No more than 50 grams or 50 milliliters per week (approximately 1 large tube or bottle) should be used.

How should I take Temovate?

Use Temovate exactly as directed. Do not use it more often or for a longer time than ordered. Gently rub a thin layer of cream, ointment, or gel into the affected area.

What should I avoid while taking Temovate?

Do not cover or bandage the affected area after applying Temovate.

Temovate is for use only on the skin. Keep it out of your eyes. Do not use Temovate on the face, groin, or armpits. If the scalp application gets into your eyes, flush your eyes with a lot of water.

Do not use the scalp application near an open flame.

Avoid simultaneous use of cosmetics or skin care products on treated areas.

What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Temovate?

If Temovate is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Always check with your doctor before combining Temovate with any other medication.

What are the possible side effects of Temovate?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.
