  • What is Ultravate?

    Ultravate is a highly potent steroid medication that relieves the itching and inflammation caused by a wide variety of skin disorders. It is available in cream and ointment forms.

  • What is the most important information I should know about Ultravate?

    Some of the medication in Ultravate may be absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream. If you apply Ultravate over a large area, or under an airtight dressing, the drug can cause a number of unwanted side effects, including increased sugar in your blood and urine, and a set of symptoms called Cushing's syndrome. Children may be at higher risk and experience delayed growth and delayed weight gain.

    Do not use more Ultravate than your doctor prescribes, and do not bandage or wrap the affected area unless your doctor specifically recommends it.

    Do not use Ultravate for more than 2 weeks at a time, and apply only to small areas. Tell your doctor if there is no improvement within 2 weeks.

  • Who should not take Ultravate?

    Do not take Ultravate if you are allergic to halobetasol proprionate or any of the ingredients.

    Do not use Ultravate to treat red eruptions around the mouth (perioral dermatitis) or the red facial patches caused by rosacea.

    Use of Ultravate in children <12 years of age is not recommended.

  • What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Ultravate?

    Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Ultravate. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have Cushing's syndrome, high blood sugar, or skin infections.

  • What is the usual dosage?

    The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

    Adults: Gently and completely rub a thin layer of Ultravate onto the affected skin once or twice a day. Do not use more than 50 grams per week, and do not continue treatment for more than 2 weeks.

  • How should I take Ultravate?

    Use Ultravate only as directed by your physician. Do not apply it to the face, groin, or armpits.

    Only use Ultravate on the skin and avoid getting it in your eyes.

    Gently and completely rub a thin layer of Ultravate onto the affected skin once or twice a day.

  • What should I avoid while taking Ultravate?

    Do not use it to treat any condition other than the one for which it was prescribed.

    Avoid using bandages, coverings, or wrappings on the treated skin area unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Ultravate?

    No significant interactions with Ultravate have been reported. However, always tell your doctor about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

  • What are the possible side effects of Ultravate?

    Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

    Side effects may include: burning, itching, stinging, dry skin

  • Can I receive Ultravate if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

    The effects of Ultravate during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Ultravate should only be used during pregnancy if the possible benefits outweigh the possible risks to the unborn child.

  • What should I do if I miss a dose of Ultravate?

    If you miss a dose of Ultravate, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time.

  • How should I store Ultravate?

    Store Ultravate at room temperature.
