  • What is Vibativ?

    Vibativ is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections of the skin. Vibativ may also be used to treat other bacterial infections, as determined by your doctor. Vibativ is administered intravenously (through a vein in your arm).

  • What is the most important information I should know about Vibativ?

    Vibativ can harm your unborn baby if you use it during pregnancy. Do not become pregnant while you are using Vibativ. You will need to undergo pregnancy tests before starting Vibativ to make sure that you are not pregnant. If you become pregnant while you are using Vibativ, talk to your doctor about taking part in the pregnancy registry for Vibativ.

    Vibativ can cause kidney problems. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function.

    Infusion-related reactions can occur if Vibativ is infused too rapidly. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop redness of the upper body, itchiness, or rash.

    Mild diarrhea is common with antibiotic use. However, a more serious form of diarrhea, although rare, may occur. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools. Do not treat the diarrhea without first checking with your doctor. Vibativ should be used with caution if you take medications known to cause irregular heartbeat, have irregular heartbeat, have heart failure, or have other heart problems.

  • Who should not take Vibativ?

    Your doctor will not administer Vibativ to you if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.

    Your doctor will not administer Vibativ to you to treat viral infections, such as the common cold.

    Adults: Your doctor will administer the appropriate dose for you based on your body weight and the severity of your infection.

    If you have kidney impairment, your doctor will adjust your dose appropriately.

  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Vibativ?

    If Vibativ is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Vibativ with the following: blood pressure/heart medications known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (such as lisinopril), blood thinners (such as warfarin), diuretics (water pills) (such as furosemide), medications that cause irregular heartbeat (such as dronedarone or ciprofloxacin), or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (such as indomethacin).

  • What are the possible side effects of Vibativ?

    Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

    Side effects may include: abdominal pain, change in your sense of taste, diarrhea, dizziness, fever, foamy urine, irregular heartbeat, itchiness, nausea, rash, vomiting

    Vibativ can harm your unborn baby if you use it during pregnancy. The effects of Vibativ during breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

    Vibativ should be given under special circumstances determined by your doctor.
