  • What is Victrelis?

    Victrelis is a medicine used with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin to treat long-term hepatitis C infection in adults who have not been treated before or who have failed previous treatment.

  • What is the most important information I should know about Victrelis?

    Do not take Victrelis alone to treat long-term hepatitis C infection. Victrelis must be used with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin.

    Victrelis, in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, can cause harm or death to your unborn baby. You, or your female sexual partner, should not become pregnant while taking these medications, and for 6 months after treatment is over. You must have a negative pregnancy test before starting treatment, each month during treatment, and for 6 months after your treatment ends. You must use 2 forms of effective birth control during treatment and for 6 months after treatment is over.

    Your doctor will perform blood tests before you start treatment, and at other times as needed during treatment, to see how well the medicines are working and to check for side effects.

    Do not stop taking Victrelis without first talking with your doctor.

  • Who should not take Victrelis?

    Do not take Victrelis if you or your female sexual partner is pregnant or may become pregnant.

    Do not take Victrelis if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.

  • What should I tell my doctor before I take the first dose of Victrelis?

    Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Victrelis. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have low red blood cell counts (anemia), have liver problems other than hepatitis C infection, have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (AIDS), have had an organ transplant, plan to have surgery, are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

  • What is the usual dosage?

    The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

    Adults: The usual dose is 800 milligrams (mg), (four 200-mg capsules), 3 times a day. Take Victrelis in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin.

  • How should I take Victrelis?

    Take Victrelis exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Always take Victrelis with food. Make sure you are taking the correct amount of medicine each time.

  • What should I avoid while taking Victrelis?

    You, or your sexual partner, should avoid becoming pregnant while taking Victrelis.

    Do not give Victrelis to other people, even if they have the same symptoms that you have. It may harm them.

  • What are possible food and drug interactions associated with Victrelis?

    If Victrelis is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is important to check with your doctor before combining Victrelis with any other medication.

  • What are the possible side effects of Victrelis?

    Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this drug.

    Side effects may include: change in taste, headache, low red blood cell counts, nausea, tiredness

  • Can I receive Victrelis if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

    Do not take Victrelis if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Victrelis, in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, may cause harm or even death to your unborn baby. The effects of Victrelis during breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

  • What should I do if I miss a dose of Victrelis?

    If you miss a dose of Victrelis and it is more than 2 hours before the next dose, take your dose with food as soon as you remember. However, if it is less than 2 hours before the next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.

  • How should I store Victrelis?

    Store in a refrigerator. Keep in a tightly closed container and away from heat. Also, it may be stored at room temperature for 3 months.
