    Zemplar is a medicine used to prevent and treat overfunctioning parathyroid glands associated with chronic (long-term) kidney disease.

    Tell your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms of high calcium (such as feeling tired, difficulty thinking clearly, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, increased thirst, increased urination, and weight loss).

    You will need frequent monitoring by your doctor during the initiation of therapy, following dose changes, or when other medications are started or stopped.

    Your doctor will ask you to follow instructions regarding diet and phosphorus restrictions.

    Do not take Zemplar if you have high calcium and vitamin D levels, or if you are allergic to Zemplar or any of its ingredients.

    Side effects may include: allergic reactions, back pain, chest pain, fever, flu, fungal/bacterial infections, headache, pain, stomach pain, viral infection

    The effects of Zemplar during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

  • What should I do if I miss a dose of Zemplar Oral?

    If you miss a dose of Zemplar, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
